A desk job can be really frustrating at times.  This is more often due to the immense work pressure and along with that the continuous strenuous sitting posture. However, it may seem that there is no way to get out of this and that you are stuck in this, there are indeed many simple ways in which you can get back your active self and get back to work in refreshed manner.

  1. Drink lots of water: The first step is to drink water. Many a times, we forget to drink water even if we are thirsty because our whole concentration is on the work at hand. However, water is required and is a great source of energy. And needless to say, it helps our overall health. One more thing that is called for when drinking water is using the washroom. And this calls for walking which is itself the best of exercises.
  2. Schedule walking calls: Rather than talking on the phone sitting, take a walk. Trust us, you will have absolutely no idea how much distance you can cover if you walk and talk. And not just calls, for that matter, you can even walk and have brainstorming sessions and update meetings as well. Moreover, what you can do is call in your friends to do it along with you.
  3. Work standing up: It is time to take a stand for your work. There has been enough of sitting down the whole time. So, try working standing up if and when you can. Try standing for about 10 to 15 minutes in an hour. Maybe read e-mails and do other flexible work too. This helps maintain a straight posture. Even, moving around a bit reaching to out to that friend of yours who sits right at the end of the row does well. You even feel better talking.
  4. Taking the stairs: This is perhaps the most important of all the ways. Stop using the elevator. Now we are not telling you to take the stairs for your office on the 10th floor. What you can do is take the elevator to the 7th or 8th floor and walk up the stairs for the remaining floors. And maybe try walking up the 10 floors twice or thrice a month. You will be surprised at the outcome. This comes more like a realization of your inner great power. And with great power comes great responsibility.
  5. Chair Hovering: A fun activity while also being an exercise, many of us do it unknowingly. Try hovering in a sitting position by pulling yourself just a few inches above your desk chair while working. See if you can do it every 15 min or 20 minutes for about 30 seconds.
  6. L-sits: Another more common activity, this involves placing your hands on the chair’s arms and pulling yourself up and holding mid-air for as long as you can, while raising the knees too. For those of you who do not do it, this is a killer exercise for abs and triceps.

Keeping these 6 things in mind will help you a lot in staying active while being at your desk job. All you have to do is find out how you can make the most of your office time.
