How to Stay Physically and Mentally Healthy While Staying at Home

As the fatal Corona Virus wreaks havoc all over the world, and a worldwide lockdown has become clearly apparent and evident, it becomes necessary for all of us to take care of both our physical and mental health. Staying at home without outdoor workouts can take a serious toll on our bodies. Moreover, the fact that we are constantly staying indoors without any access to the outdoor environment and the inability to interact with others can affect out mental health immensely.

So, in this blog, we shall be talking about how we can keep our physical and mental health well while staying at home. We need to keep in mind also the fact that as soon as this quarantine gets over, and everything starts getting back to normal, a lot of stress will befall on us. This is mainly because at the work which was paused due to the Corona virus outbreak will have accumulated and will need to be taken care of from their very scratch. So having a fit body and mind to take on the upcoming pressure is necessary.

Here are 4 things that need to be taken care of in order to have a healthy mind and body:

  1. Nutrition: The most important in this aspect is food. When stores are locked down, storing necessary nutritional products is needful. However, do not hoard unnecessary items and make sure to avoid panic-buying. Create a log of what you have in your pantry. While most people are opting for grain and other canned food items, it is very much useful to store fresh produce. Buy fruits and vegetables and store them in the refrigerator and freezer. This will allow them to be used for frankly months. Also, sturdy veggies like sweet potatoes, sprouts and broccoli can also stay outside the fridge for a long time.
    Stress eating is common in such times and perhaps the best way to avoid it is to accept it and channel it into other activities like talking to a friend, reading a book or even writing down your own feelings.
  2. Fitness: Not being able to go to the gym does not mean you cannot work out. As for walking, do so within a premise while keeping a safe distance.  And as for working out, you can easily use dish towels as sliders for exercises like mountain climbers and lunges, and wine bottles for weights, even a durable chair for step-ups. Experts suggest choosing four to five exercises max, then doing each for a minute and then repeating the circuit from3 to 5 times. 
    Other than these, a physical activity does necessarily have to be a workout. Hobbies like gardening or even cleaning slash improve your mental health a lot, keeping you jolly.
  3. Sleep and stress-relief activities: Work from home has cost many people their sleep hours. This point is perhaps the most underrated of all. While the importance of sleep can never be overstated, meditation and yoga are great stress-busters. Moreover, many experts are suggesting to create a space free of technology save for a speaker for listening to music. Opt for things that help you calm down, like your favorite pillows and blankets.
  4. Cleaning: Reports suggest that the Corona virus can live on stainless steel and plastic surfaces for upto 72 hours, copper for upto4 hours and cardboard for upto 24 hours. Although it is not the primary way the virus attacks, it does not cost or hurt to wipe down regularly used objects like railings, door knobs, and faucets along with the usual household cleaning. A clean and hygienic has a positive effect on both the mind and the body.

Keep these 4 things in mind will help you have a healthy mind and body while staying at home. Lockdown can seem less like lockdown if you follow these things regularly.
