5 Ways to Keep Your Immune System Working Against COVID-19

These are desperate times. The COVID-19 virus has made us realize that even with all the power we think we possess, how trivial we really are as humans. With so many lives lost and many more affected, it has become more necessary than ever to keep ourselves safe and secure. The states and countries  have already called for lockdown around the world. And authorities are asking us to stay indoors and keep ourselves healthy so as to not allow the virus to affect ourselves. And we shall be able to stop the spread anymore.

In this blog, we shall be talking about 5 simple yet effective ways in which we will able to protect ourselves and keep our immune systems protecting against the COVID-19 aka Coronavirus. Yes, having a clean household, washing your hands often is needed but what it you are attacked by the virus? Your body needs to have its armor in order to protect itself.

Here are 5 ways to have a strong Immune system against the COVID-19:

  1. Exercise: The best way there ever is, when you exercise, not only do your muscles get stronger but along with it your cardiovascular system develops as well. Moreover, when you walk or run, your body releases chemicals that boost your mind and mood, which helps you keep strong mentally. So, keep exercising every day.
  2. Eat Healthy: Along with exercising, eating well is also necessary. This provides your body the vitamins and minerals to keep itself working in full swing. Add antioxidants to your to your diet. Turn your diet colorful with nuts, berries, avocados, carrots, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables. All these are great sources of minerals and vitamins. Don’t forget oranges and kiwis as they are very rich in Vitamin C.
  3. A good Sleep: All of us are at home presently due to the lockdown. So, there is no real reason why you cannot have 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily. Other than the usual benefits of sleep, like rebooting our system and others, sleeping helps the release of cytokines, which is a type of protein that helps our immune system protect against viruses and infections, in this case the COVID-19.
  4. Go outside: Yes, we are not allowed to go outdoors, but you can go to the terrace, right? So, do that. The sun is the ultimate provider of vitamin D. And other than that, walking outside does help a lot in getting over the depressed mood of staying indoors 24 hours without any physical activity. This is much more fun if you can get hold of a friend or a group of friends. Chatting is the ultimate pass-time right now. Remember that socializing is important. Physical distancing does not mean maintaining a distance emotionally. Reach out to your loved ones those are away from you via Facebook, Whatsapp, Skype and other such platforms.
  5. Bring down your stress:  During times like these, stress comes from not doing anything or the inability to do anything useful most of which involves going out. However, it does not do good to dwell on stress as it can release hormones which can bring down our immune systems.  Take a handful of minutes out of your work-from-home schedule and do some meditation or deep breathing. Or what you can do is listen to subliminal messages, calming music or nature sounds, or even podcasts about something you like or enjoy. All this help a lot in getting over stress.

Keeping these 5 things in mind keeps both your body and mind immune to the COVID-19. It is essential that we keep ourselves fit during the present times. And as soon as the lockdown gets over, we shall get back to our daily lives full of energy.
