Play Optimist in the Face of Negativity and Stress of Modern Life

If we say that our modern life is very demanding, then maybe that will be the understatement of the decade. Modern life can also bring extreme negativity in life too. Think about it, when you are spending hours after hours at your desk, working on the same old monotonous system or project, when you have hardly any time for proper recreation, when social media has taken over the time of little bit of creative stimulation, when an unhealthy competition is going on all around you to prove whose life is better and you are suffering from the fear of missing out, it is obvious that you will feel negative.

When you are dealing with such negativity in life, you are also becoming susceptible to problems like stress, anxiety, and depression. Now, you might think that changing this cycle is impossible as you are so glued to it. But have faith in positivity. The best way to do that is to play the optimist. Just like Pat Riley has remarked, “If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give your best effort, eventually, you will overcome your immediate problems and find that you are ready for greater challenges.” How will you do that? Take a look at the following points to know more.

Surround Yourself with Positivity

Life will never stop throwing curveballs at you. Once you tackle one, another one will be immediately ready. And you have to handle all of it. But if you are only focusing on the negative part of this whole struggle, then you are actually missing out on a major part that is positive. It is your responsibility to surround yourself with positivity. Take short breaks when you feel drained out. Travel the world. There is nothing as beneficial as traveling. Get enrolled in some volunteering services that will keep you engage on the weekends. Whatever you are getting from this earth, give it back in a positive way.  Spend time with kids or your elderly parents. Have a pet. If possible, pursue a creative hobby. It will add massive positivity in your life.

Maintain Work-Life Balance

This is the most important thing that you have to do to persevere through negativity in life. If you are working more than 10 hours a day and all seven days in a week, then you are failing to maintain your work-life balance. There is no need to drown in work so much so that it takes a toll on your positive mindset. Make sure you are limiting your working hours and you are spending time doing something that you love and that makes you happy. Take plenty of rest. A proper work-life balance can work wonders to manage your stress and anxiety related to work.

Unplug Time to Time

“FOMO,” the newest world that has been added on the modern-day vocabulary stands for a weird kind of phobia people have developed, the fear of missing out. The constant and unhealthy competition going on social media platforms leads to extreme cases of anxiety, depression, and FOMO which is affecting the younger generation severely. Moreover, TRP loving media is constantly serving the news full of negativity for the sake of getting more attention. In such a predicament, it might become imperative to get caught up in the flow and reside in complete negativity. Social media makes you too conscious about how imperfect your appearance is or your life is as you are not traveling the world or splurging on expensive things like some “influencers.”  But just like Matt Haig has remarked in his book Notes on a Nervous Planet, “Happiness is not good for the economy. We are encouraged, continually, to be a little bit dissatisfied with ourselves.” Understand the fine line between pretense and reality. And when you fail to do so, there is no problem in unplugging for some time. Turn off the notifications, switch off that beeping Smartphone and become comfortable with yourself again.

Use these ideas to steer clear of negativity in your life and become more positive. Remember what Gaur Gopal Das has said in his bestselling book Life’s Amazing Secrets: How to Find Balance and Purpose in Your Life, “We must find positivity in the bleakest situations and live by the principle of gratitude. ”
